Letters that we write, but do not say!
1. Silent Consonants (K, W, B, N)
In these common spelling patterns, one of the letters is completely quiet:
Silent "K" (Kn)

Silent "W" (Wr)
wrap
wreck

wrong
wrist
wrestle
Silent "B" (Mb) & "N" (Mn)
bomb

2. Silent "H" Secrets (Rh & Wh)
The letter H is often silent when placed next to R or W:
Silent "H" after "R" (Rh)
rhino
Silent "H" after "W" (Wh)
Whale
while
white
when
overwhelming
3. Silent "T" & Quiet "P"
These letters are either silent or made very quietly in fast speech:
Silent "T" in (-stle)
wrestle
hustle
castle
whistle
Quiet "P" in (mp)
We barely hear the 'p' sound:
empty
prompt
pumpkin
4. Silent "U" after "G" (Gu)
When U is next to G, the 'U' is silent and the 'G' makes a hard /g/ sound:
guide ➔ sounds like "gide"
guest ➔ sounds like "gest"
guard ➔ sounds like "gard"

Bonus Spelling:
pharmacist ➔ (The ph makes an /f/ sound!)
