The letter team ea can make three completely different sounds depending on the word!

Spelling & Pronunciation Shifts

Notice how the vowel sounds change between singular, plural, and word types:

Child ➔ Children

Child has a long "I" sound (/aɪ/), but Children changes to a short "I" sound (/ɪ/)!

Life ➔ Lives

Life (singular) and Lives (plural noun) both keep the long "I" sound (/aɪ/).

Live (Short 'I') vs. Live (Long 'I')

I live (/lɪv/ - short I) in London, but we are watching a live (/laɪv/ - long I) show! Also: alive (/laɪv/ - long I).
